Our Special Passion: Seniors

THE GREATEST GENERATION

Older Americans are the ultimate generation. Our respect for this generation is immeasurable. They built the infrastructure of our country and protected it from domination.

Our motivation for working with seniors comes from the happiness and joy that is created by knowing senior's retirements have been secured.

Our decision to focus on and work within the senior community is founded on the fact that seniors do not have a second chance in life. After the recent market crash and with the corruption within the financial industry, it is certain that seniors require a trusted financial advisor.

Our extensive experience working with seniors has consistently taught us that seniors top three concerns are: 1) outliving their assets; 2) maintaining their independence; and 3) preserving their health and safety. Our passion, as Certified Senior Advisors, is to help guide our senior friends/clients through these issues.

For seniors who are in hospice or at the end-of-life stage, we offer our services at a significant discount; in many cases, we have consulted pro-bono.

For those working within the retirement community, a favorite activity of ours is getting together with interested seniors and discussing the state of the financial world and current events. These are always very well-attended and enjoyed by all, including us. Please feel free to inquire about these "fireside chats" by clicking on "Contact Us".

In early 2006, we conducted multiple focus groups at senior facilities. This was to help provide us with first-hand information from the seniors for a book that we plan to write titled “Seniors Financial Advice to The Youth”.

As part of this project, we met with multiple heads of nursing homes, adult-day care facilities, and senior continuing care communities to seek their permission to present and meet with volunteers.

We were struck by the dedication of the folks in leadership positions and, more importantly, by their support of our project. With their support, we were able to speak with over 100 seniors about all sorts of financial concerns. Our lead in all our presentations was always, “if you had it to do over again, what would you do differently?”

Astonishingly, it was rare that any senior would have changed a thing. Their overwhelming advice was to “buy real estate” and “don’t spend more than you make.” Almost all believed that their children should take care of themselves financially, that Ma or Pa did not need to contribute. None of them wanted to be a burden to their families and many of them had moved from other areas of the country to these facilities so their children did not have to perform long-distance caregiving.

As for the comments from the senior facilities executive staff, all were very intrigued with professionals such as us coming in and seeking the senior’s opinions. The executives feel society does not respect seniors; this is shameful given the wisdom they carry.

All executives who attended our sessions were extremely excited to see how engaged their residents were in the process and all invited us back to conduct follow up sessions.
